1000 things

Hello my Fluent readers!

Welcome to my blog - where I share with you my stories about multilingual parenting. Todays special number is… you guessed it… 1000.

I'm Hannah Burkhardt, the founder of Fluent which I created for, like, 1000 reasons but will narrow it down to my top 3 reasons just for you and I will follow with an update on what I am up to.

My reasons:

1. So that every child can see their language represented in books.

2. To build literacy skills in all kids, regardless of their first language.

3. To make it easy for parents to get the resources they need to teach their mother tongue.

Oh wait... one more - #4. because of grandparents. Grandparents - the great opportunity to outsource language learning. It is SOOOO touching when grandkids and grandparents bond over books in the language of one's cultural heritage. <3

I am sorry that I haven't been able to post lately. My brain is trying to take action on 1000 things however I have been practicing "The One Thing" -->Trying to do one thing at a time. I am reading the book by Gary Keller and am about 1000 words in. All this to say, the blog was cut from the the most important things list.

So, hows ‘the one thing’ going, you ask?

I am not going to lie - I am still doing 37 things at once. However, I was able to focus enough to write, illustrate and complete 10 books. That means you can now customize 10 books in any languages you want. Yay! Check it out here. That’s at least 1000 variations depending on which languages you pick.

This was so important to me because kids have different tastes and while I personally love a nice water coloured rabbit.... It's just not going to do it for every child. Interestingly enough it feels like not enough yet! I have 20 more stories that need to be edited and illustrated. Help!

The concept of ‘Help’ reminds me of the other exciting news —> I am starting to sign up translators. These brave souls are going to help me make the dream come true! It's not too late to sign up, if you are a fan of passive income and believe in making books in any language (specifically yours).

There are lots of great things coming together over here and yet it feels like when you have guests come over and they may admire your new carpet... but you know that 5 minutes before their arrival it was decorated with an embarrassing cacophony of toys, half eaten crackers and lego that is now balanced delicately, up to shoulder height, in your closet. One wrong sneeze and the whole truthful chaos will be revealed. 1000 things back into your mental space. #parentinglife #newbusinessbaby

It’s not enough to have lego… now a person has to have 1000 languages stored in the closet too…

Listen - I hope you are all doing well. I hope you are not haunted by the mess and THE GLORY of 1000 things. And I hope you are finding easy ways to share language with your little one.

Stay tuned for the next post - about Boujemaas book! #monkeyseemonkeydo
