5 - The Truth and Reconciliation Commission - Authentic voices
in 2008 Prime Minister Stephen Harper apologized to Indigenous peoples in Canada for the harms caused by the residential school system. He acknowledged the impact on Indigenous culture, heritage, and language, recognizing the emotional, physical, and cultural abuses faced by Indigenous children in these institutions. Harper’s apology was a step toward reconciliation, aiming to acknowledge the historical wrongs committed and to help heal relationships between Indigenous communities and the Canadian government.
The Apology - This is a an arguably pivotal point in Canada’s History. To people who thought it would never happen it meant something. To others it was a political chess piece being moved. To others it didn’t have any add-value.
How to Apologize - I wonder how people feel about the last step on this one - the offer to make amends.
